I can only speak for myself.  I know others had really good con.

I cannot say the same for myself.

Not to say it was a complete wash.  Networked with some amazing artists that I'm hoping to hire for the press on cover duties.  Got to chat with dear dear friends.  Had a truly fabulous time Thursday night at the Cigar & Wine Bar on 5th.  (Order the Clos du Bois merlot and something delicious and pungent from the cigar counter.)

And...that's it.

I saw very few faces that I recognized.  Most apparent was at the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund Party, where I knew *no one*.  Once upon a time, this was not so.  I chatted up a lovely young woman from Marvel.com, but aside from that...  Yeah.  Didn't know a soul.  Left after an hour.

The exhibition floor?

Holy shit, on what planet does the SDCC committee think that it's sane?  It now makes E3 look normal and sane.  That's some cracked up shit.  Too many people.  Still no way to get in to the con except by one small sidewalk that is not even remotely rated for the number of bodies trying to flow into the convention center (really San Diego?  You can't widen the sidewalk, but you can widen the crosswalks?  Really?)  Aisles are still the same size, but the crowd flow is not, so traffic jams constantly.  E3 at least knows to make avenue wide aisles between booths.

And once inside?

Miles and miles and miles.  And even with a map, I couldn't find half the people I went looking for or their booths.  Half the booth markers on the floor were obscured.  Not every booth clearly indicated who and what they were.

I think I maybe got three productive hours out of the day and a half that we were there.

No bueno.

I won't be going back, not unless invited and there to promote something specific or with a booth to hide behind.  Because braving that floor and those crowds again?

Um.  No.

I'll be saving my pennies for Phoenix and Long Beach.  SDCC clearly doesn't care about comics anymore, except insofar as they can be strip mined for Hollywood.

I prefer to not be a witness to that.
