My morning got started by a scam artist calling me at work. I've set my husband on them now to suck them dry of info so we can have a full report to give to the FTC and the FBI and other authorities.

This is the strange upside to having been scammed so thoroughly two years ago. Between Countrywide, the asshole and the art scammers in the UK, I am the definition of suspicious when someone calls me saying that they're going to arrest me if I don't pay them.

Um, jackass, we don't have debtors prisons anymore and you just violated about three FTC regs even *saying* that to me. Here comes my answering rocket.

Yeah. Good morning, Anji.

But otherwise, the day is good. Energy is shifting and I got enough sleep.

If I've learned anything in this life so far, it's this. That which leaves you alive? You can recover from. You can climb out of the hole you're in and survive. Two years ago, things were pretty bad. When I was 19, and I wrecked my car and was in chronic hideous pain, that was pretty fucking bad. When my parents announced their divorce, that sucked too.

But I lived. I drew breath. I got up. Again.

Life can knock us down.

But as long as I breathe, (with apologies to Terry Pratchett), I put on the copper armor and trudge up the hill in the lightning storm to scream:

"All gods are bastards!"

Because, damn them all, until this life kills me, I'll scream defiance to the last.

I think sushi for lunch. Yes. Raw something is suitable.

Wells Fargo can't recover the lost funds for us.

So.

We've officially lost $3,500.

*sigh*

Oh well.

Um. Buy a book! Check out Hunt Press http://huntpress.com

And have the pretty clicky to The Red Shoes:

I'm also entertaining the idea of taking commissions for abstract work. If there's a piece you'd like to commission me for, I have some time for about three spots. As always, you can reach me at qkilroy at earthlink dot net.

Also, prints are still available and new work will be going up on my flickr this week. Ping me for pricing.

Also, it's Tax Season, and if you're in California, I prepare taxes for a reasonable fee. I actually enjoy the hell out of it. I know. I'm strange that way.

I now go to peddle the cats and the dog on the street corner.

Scammed

This day gets worse and worse.

I just found out that I've been scammed by this so called collector who wanted the paintings. The check has bounced, literally hours after I sent the money to the so-called movers.

I am now out $3500 and feeling too stupid to live.

When I did some research, which I should have done FIRST, but I'm too naive/gullible to live, I found out that this person goes by several aliases and has done this to several other artists.

I am reposting the information from Art News as a heads up to anyone else, so they hopefully don't get taken.

In the meantime, this hurts us very badly and I now don't know how we're going to move when escrow closes.

I have never felt more foolish and stupid than I do now.

Re-post below:

List of Artist Scammers and Fraudsters
I know I keep mentioning art scams and the emails that artists receive, but they continue to help artists that are new to the internet. So, I thought I would create a post with the art scammer's name and email. I'll update this post with new names, aliases and emails of the scummy excuses for human beings and hopefully it will prevent a lot of artists from being ripped off.

Please send me the name and email of any art scam emails that you receive and I will add it to this post. If artists are suspicious and do a Google search for the person (poor excuse for one), I hope they find this post!

The way they work is to send you a check/cheque that is much larger than the amount you agreed on for your art. They ask you to send the extra money back to them, just before you find out that their check is fake.

Don't be an idiot like me.

Apparently, this was the year that I needed to get taken by con artists.

I should be slapped for my stupidity.
