The stockings are hung by the door with care.

The landing beacon and colored smoke are ready for deployment to signal Santa's insertion team.

I'm getting ready to bake and make a chicken for Christmas Eve dinner, but I wanted to take a moment before I get elbows deep in baking.

Merry Christmas, my darlings. Or Happy Holidays. Or a Blessed Ramadan. Or a Happy Kwanzaa. Yule is past, but a Blessed Yule to you as well. But most of all, I wish you happiness and peace and good will. You all rock my Casbah.

*smooch*

Peace out, my darlings. I've got a chicken to bake.

It's the night before Christmas and the gifts I've received this year have been many and came in the guise of angels masquerading in human form.

Our landlord, Dave, who didn't even check our credit and signed a lease with us.

Ashley, for being brave and knowing what it means to own a broken brain, helping us move and coming to play with me and my camera.

Clark, for helping us move and bringing the van. The grill made it to the new place in one piece because of you.

Aura & Tiffany, our real estate agents who never gave up fighting Countrywide so that the old house could get sold.

Mindy, for so many things I hardly know where to start. You shine, girl.

Robin and Vicky Jo, who between them have been the best of friends and supporters of my dreams. The Mouse swims because of you, and knows that magic is real.

For everyone who helped us when the Ant sprained her ankles. I can never thank you enough, but I will do everything in my power to pass it on, till the day I die.

Dave Mitchell, for being the Spirit of Christmas. The list is too long but proves how you are surely in disguise.

Heidi, the Mad Model, my Muse and my Queen. Forever and ever. Always. Till the stars burn out.

James, for being the voice of inspiration and encouragement when I flagged and knowing exactly what to say and when to say it.

Barrie, the Ant, the Incomparable Miss Barrie. For everything.

Matthew, my husband, for being the rock on which I have built my House.

And here, the last, but so not the least, my Mouse and my Bean, for showing me the Way. Till them, I did not know the true meaning of Love, or even of Christmas.

The list could go on a lot longer and in a lot more detail, but sitting here for a moment before I head back into the kitchen...well, just the ones that immediately jump out. 2009 wasn't all bad. It showed me in unequivocal ways how very loved my family and I are loved. And let us love back.

Now that is the spirit of Christmas, if ever there was.

Love and Light, my darlings. Merry, Merry Christmas!

Well. I've broached the subject with the Mouse. Her immediate response? "I go with you!"

*sigh*

Why can't I be independently wealthy? If I had my way, I'd be dragging my whole fam and the Mad Model to Florence with me. But such is not to be. I'm excited to be going, but I'm going to miss the hell out of my girl.

* * *

To everyone who came over yesterday for the Orphans Thanksgiving, thank you. You made the day utterly delightful and warmed me up for Florence. Knowing you're all rooting for me gives me a great boost. Thank you.

Today, we went to see Santa.

The Mouse asked for a puppy and a green bike with training wheels.

Santa looked at me and said, "Well, I'll have to check with my elves and see what we can do!"

I just looked at him and gave him a nod. To which he grinned like the jolly elf he was and said to the Mouse, "But I think we can work that out."

Needless to say, the Mouse was very, very excited.

Now to just make sure Santa can get everything down the chimney come Christmas Day.

* * *

I'm going to miss the start of Channukah. I'm actually a bit bummed about this. Yay for Florence! Boo for missing the start with my bestest [profile] barriequark. You'd know why I felt this way if you'd had her latkes. Dude.

* * *

So that's that. Four days was too short to be home with my family. Ten days is going to be both too short and too long for Florence. But I'm committed now. Bags are packed.

Now to just get through the dayjob without killing anyone.

And screw the PC crap. Happy and blessed whatever holiday you possess!

Tonight, I am giddy happy and that is a blessing and a gift after all that has happened. I have conversed with the spirit of Santa Claus and know that my good little Mouse will indeed be receiving quite the Yule to remember on Christmas Day.

Sue me. The 25th was our holiday first. And I'm pretty sure so was the guy in red, barring St. Nick himself.

But moving on.

Halloween may be my favorite holiday, but I love this season too. Hannukah for the Auntie B, Yule for me and Christmas for the honey bunny husband. If our friend, James, celebrated Kwanzaa, we'd have that too! But I don't know anyone who does, so we don't.

It all boils down (for me) to peace and love and giving (and eating).

Grinch, Scrooge or possessed of the holiday spirits (or alcoholic spirits), on this the longest dark of the year, I wish you a blessed holiday, a happy new year and a hope that your wishes will be in your grasp.

Rejoice! The Unconquered Sun returns!

And now I have to go wrap more gifts. The husband and the aunt went nuts at Toys R Us and that doesn't count what Santa tells me he's bringing. Oy!!! LOL
