Welcome home, Anji. Motherfuck.

*deploys Great Big Book of Everything*

*fires up the altar*

Our landlord has sold the building to assholes who are going to convert it into their residence, so they can legally evict us. We have 45 to 105 days to find some place to live, as of today.

I am… upset. Less so now though.

I ordered takeout and drank some tequila to process last night, but now it’s about getting my arms around this and getting down to brass tacks, to horribly mix metaphors.

First order of business is that I will be posting about the Everything Must Go Auction/Sale of artwork currently in the house. So my question for all of you is where would you prefer that I post things? Etsy? EBay? What works for you folks? I’m intending on having things go live here in the next few days.

In the physical aspects of what we currently need help with for the actual move is the following:

Referral to a good moving company/movers
Boxes

And that’s really it, for physical stuff.

Mostly, what I really need is for folks to spread the word about the moving sale when it goes live. If the art doesn’t find homes, it’s going to be purged.

Yes. That means destroyed.

So.

Yeah.

I’m really angry. I know that this is for the best. It’s just not the way I wanted this next stage of things to come together. Granted, that’s kinda been a theme for the last few months. Thank the gods I know not to fight it because it doesn’t fit my picture.

As James said to me, this is just a course correction.

*tacks with the Wind*

Oh, hell; wotta PITA! For boxes, visit liquor stores. I'll try to find my records of who moved me from SoCal to PDX and pass along info. They're local to thereabouts and were GREAT.

Bless you! There's two liquor stores nearby. I will do some drive bys. And yes, please give me the info if you can find it. With all the art and breakables, I only want movers who people speak highly of, y'know?

Grocery stores too... they have similar boxes for produce.

My serious sympathies; that's rough. Best of luck with the replanning.

The current real challenge right now isn't the money or the moving. It's finding the right place for us.

So I'm asking for everyone to hold that the perfect house is just waiting to go on the market in the very near future for us and we will find it in good order.

Yeah, it's not how I wanted to come back from my trip, but it is what it is.

We're doing the hardcore sort and purge this week, which is less than fun, but is going well so far.

We'll definitely signal boost.

Ebay would probably be better, just because people can bid for your stuff and you might get more than what you would sell it for.

Thank you!

And thank you for the feedback on EBay.

This is exactly why we ended up buying a house - after having two landlords sell out from under us, we were done with the whole rigamarole. You have all my sympathies on the PITA!

This is the first time it's ever happened to me and I am NOT happy about it, but clearly it's what needs doing.

I'm so sorry, hon. I'm too far away to help, but we had gotten boxes to move stuff from supermarkets and the hospital receiving dock area. I don't know if you're close enough to larger places to ask about boxes they'd throw out anyway, but as much as it might feel weird to ask, it's one less thing to have to buy. And honestly, buying boxes for moving never made much sense to me.

Alternately, if you wind up having to move far away, we had worked with Mayflower going from NY to WI. They provide all the boxes and packing materials with the price of moving.

ULine is a shipping company that I use all the time and the first 50 boxes arrived today, so I'm feeling less freaked out on that front now. The weird shaped stuff will be the challenge to pack, but it always is.

I'm glad you're feeling less freaked out. Moving is an undertaking, whether you're moving 30 miles or 300. (I've done both, it's still logistics either way!) Weird shaped stuff or knickknacks just mean more packing peanuts or paper if you don't have the original boxes and styrofoam. We still had the boxes for a lot of the figurines we have, so that made moving them a little easier. The other odd shaped stuff went into boxes wrapped in a t shirt first or lots of packing peanuts. :)

The upside of being a publisher? Corporate account at ULine. :) So packing stuff is not too awful, but I try not to buy too much new, y'know? If I can recycle boxes from folks, I do that first.

And yes, it's the odd stuff that always is the crazy making stuff.

Weird fact: I moved every two years of my life until my 30s. I've gotten it down to only moving every four years now, which doesn't make me happy, but it does mean that I've got it down to a science now. It's just a skill I wish I didn't own.
