Five Years Ago…

(and two days from today, to be exact…)
I was in Florence, Italy.
It is still hard for me to believe that it really happened. That a group of strangers (who are strangers no more), friends, and family, joined forces to help send my art and myself there. That for ten days, I spent time in the company of 863 other artists, made friends with a large coterie of them, froze my ass off in the zero degree weather, froze my camera, and ate more incredible food than I can say.
I look at these photos often, because I often have to tell myself…
So. *That* happened.
It wasn’t all skittles and beer. My cat, Ming, died while I was away in Italia. I was cold and I was jet-lagged and more than once, scared to death. I spent about twelve hours on the way back, wondering how I was going to get home, stranded in Paris (which is not as awesome as it sounds).
But I look back here often. Because here? Here, is where I can say everything changed. Here, is where I fully realized and accepted that I was an artist and that there was a life outside of the one I was currently living that was better suited to me.
There’s a reason I bring this all up. But I can’t tell you why for another… Eleven days.
*smiles mysteriously*
