Camera Update

Well.

Back from both Samy's *and* Steve's Camera Service.

Yeah.

Um, can't be repaired by either of them. It is apparently too old of a Nikon for that and would have to be sent straight to Nikon USA for repairs. Where it would cost me $130 to $180 to just get in the door to be looked out, does not cover parts, does not cover extended labor.

Oh, and when I told the exceptionally helpful young man at Samy's what the issue was, he made The Face.

You know The Face.

It's this sympathetic pain/wince expression that is immediately schooled into compassion.

It is not the expression you want to see when describing a technical problem with your gear. It typically means, "Oh shit, that's probably not fixable."

So, considering that a quick look at their used cameras showed me that Canon 20D bodies are going for $329 and Canon 40D bodies are going for $527.

It's official. The 8800 is not worth fixing.

So there it is. That's the update, as requested.

Yup. I don't know what's worse, the helpless sensation once you realize the only option is to let it go, or the anger over the wastefulness of the whole situation.

It was more the hollow empty feeling that was the worst.
