The dialogue is the least of my problems with Miller's post-1990 work. There's some compelling graphic design (which doesn't prevent the mostly distasteful Dark Knight Strikes Again from feeling like one of Howard Chaykin's lesser works), but it just comes across as indulgent. At best, it feels like a highlight reel from some other, more interesting story I would rather have seen; at worst, it's storytelling reduced to a series of cliches and rote gestures. Don't even get me started on its treatment of women...
