… to help send me off to Horse Camp and the quest to photograph all of the wild horses left in the world.

I really shouldn’t be surprised by now by the amazing things that happen because of crowdfunding.  Because of this particular campaign, what started out as a research and art making trip, has turned into the birth of a much larger project, the adventure to go and photograph all of the bands of wild horses in the world, before they are gone for good.  And to think, I wouldn’t have found the project (or more accurately, the project wouldn’t have found me) without saying, “Hey, so there’s this thing in the desert…”
It’s scary and it’s huge, by far, the largest project I’ve endeavored to undertake, and none of it would have appeared without all of you.
Y’all are amazing, you know that, right?
Anyway, there’s still a ways to go in the campaign and I could use all the help I can get.  Even if all you can do is spread the word, believe me, it makes all the difference in the world, even now at the last half day of the campaign.
And last, but not least, thank you.  For everything.  Here’s the link to the project:

Atalanta

Oh, this one is so appropriate for today.

Atalanta was a virgin huntress of the Greek pantheon who refused to follow gender norms. Abandoned on a mountaintop to die at birth, because her father the king wanted a boy, she was raised by a bear, learned to hunt and fight as a bear, and swore her allegiance to Artemis. As a result, she is a bear goddess as well as huntress goddess. And we all know how I feel about bears.

Before her deification, she could out run, out fight, and out wrestle anyone, unless they cheated, and was the only female member of the Argonauts who sailed and fought with Jason.

She saw no reason to think herself less than a man.

When we choose to stand apart and as ourselves, it is Her spirit that moves in us.
