Mar. 23rd, 2008 07:00 pmShe drove.
The thrum of the large engine vibrated up her spine and up through her hands where they rested on the black leather steering wheel. Her machine raced through the desert night, the bright stars their only company.
She left behind the angry words, the recriminations, the sullen glares. She let the machine go, giving it speed, letting it drive her as much as being driven.
It took an hour to leave behind urban sprawl to get to the lonely desert highway. An hour to leave behind other traffic, other headlights, other worries, other angers.
She let the miles run under her wheels, the engine vibrate out the tension out of her shoulders and her hands. They’d been clenched in fists not that long ago. Clenched the way that she had screamed for half an hour on the way to this road, traffic even at 3 AM keeping her from driving down her demons.
And now there was only road and wind and mad, staring stars on a moonless night.
She’d go back.
Eventually.
But not until she put more speed and more miles behind her.

Flash for Easter.
