Florentine Sun
Mar. 13th, 2008 10:35 pmThis was one of the blinding days when I was walking about in Florence. Even so, it was glorious. There's something about strong winter sun. It leeches the color out of everything and at the same time is so deliciously sharp.
A good day.

So I am woefully behind and feel moderately sheepish. I had meant to blog every other day about some of the awesome artists I met in Florence and then, y'know, Life came and kicked my ass.
So, in the spirit of better late than never, here's the rest of the wonderful artists I wanted to point you all too.
Michael Jiroch
http://jiroch.com
He's a local here in LA and an amazing landscape painter. Vibrant, vibrant colors. Large pieces too.
Josie Taglienti

Oh, now Josie became a friend in no time at all. Our nights at the cafe are going to be with me forever as will her art. Pastels on papyrus. Mystical and soft. Wonderful woman and artist.
Giuseppe Scoccimarro
http://www.giuseppesco.com
OMG, this man can fucking paint. His single entry at the Biennale fucking blew me away. HUGE piece, abstract, black, white and gray, built up and textured and gah. I have no other real words except to say that his piece was my, hands down, favorite piece of the Biennale. The pictures of his work don't even *remotely* do his work justice.
Teri Starkweather
http://www.teristarkweather.com
Here's where an artist's name is as cool as her work. She paints clouds. With a last name like Starkweather. Just too awesome for words. Mirror imaged paintings that are like half mandalas of cloud. I seriously wanted to own one of her pieces. Some day.
So, that's the last of the other artists I wanted to call out. They made a huge impression on me, an impression I'm still feeling, three months later.

The New and Improved Day Job (TM) continues to rock. My first week has been so awesome, that note, I missed blogging on Wednesday. Frikkin' awesome.
I can't remember the last time I was happy like this.

And that's about it. There's a fuck ton more, but half I can't blog about and the other half, well, to be honest, I'm too tired to remember.
Life is good.
How are all of you?
A good day.
