The Wall

The Wall

This is me, with my back against The Wall, the Olympic torch burning above it all, from this past Saturday night.

As you may remember, my Mother’s Day was less than great and to make up for it, my husband surprised me with tickets to see Roger Waters and his current band perform The Wall.

I have only one thing to say about it:

HOLY. SHIT.

The Wall (as those of you have read The Mad Scientist’s Beautiful Daughter eARC know) is one of the cornerstone pieces of music and performance art in my personal mythology. And it was only watching this updated performance of it, that I finally understood why.

Yes, it’s about madness. It’s also about living in the shadow of a dead father who was a great man and a domineering insane mother, all while growing up in a broken system of a world.

Sound familiar?

It’s political and it’s brutal and it’s spectacle of the type that I haven’t seen since U2 at the Rose Bowl.

I’m going to do some clean up and enlarging of some of the few iPhone shots I was able to get. The rear projection Wall was beyond belief. But I only took a few shots because honestly, I didn’t want the camera between me and the experience.

The Wall has gotten me through some very difficult times in my life. Different songs for different times. I must have clung to The Wall Part III times beyond count:

I don’t need no arms around me
I don’t need no drugs to calm me
I have seen the writing on the Wall
Don’t think I need anything at all
No
Don’t think I need anything at all

It’s not easy listening. It saved my life more than once.

Thank you, Roger. Thank you, David. Thank you, all of Pink Floyd.

Oh.

And the Pig fucking ROCKED.

At the coliseum? I am fascinated that the torch is enough for me to ID the place.

What happened on Mother's Day?

Yes, Coliseum. Which is a shit venue to get to, FYI. Traffic control was a total cock up and insane.

Mother's Day is not worth recounting. Suffice to say, it wasn't fun. But it's over and in the past and doesn't matter. Some days just are enough to get through.
