Anji - 0, Computer - 1

I'm going to go find a place to cry here in a minute. I got off the phone with tech support.

It's the motherboard.

The computer is officially fried.

I can't afford the fix it or acquire a new computer.

Sorry, folks. I'll try to do what I can with limited time on the machine, but photos and other work is going to go down to a trickle if not a full stop. This also means that the photo/chapbook and the new photography book are on indefinite hold, as is all the data trapped on my hard disk.

Fuck, my novel's trapped on there too.

Fuck. I don't even have money for an external hard drive to save the data. Hmm. Maybe freecycle. They did have a keyboard for the Ant...

I'm trying to tell myself that it's just a thing, and things can be replaced, but right now I'm feeling like someone just gutted me with a rusty knife.

Yeah. Going to go cry now.

I periodically e-mail myself the files of my novel manuscripts to my g-mail account, so that they live somewhere other than my harddrives. Will it cooperate enough to let you do that?

I actually have a good chunk of the novel on google docs. I should be able to transfer it no problem, and back it up to my sister's machine.

The novel's actually not the thing that's killing me.

It's all the unedited photographs that are *ginormous*. Too big to burn to CD. The edited ones are already on flickr, thank Crom, but I have over 500 unedited ones from the last two photo shoots trapped on the machine. I'm not sure I have a blank camera memory card to transfer them to...

The delay is unfortunate, but I'll get there.

I finished RED DRAGON on a computer that was losing the monitor. We had to rig up an external cooling system with ice and a fan to keep the screen up more than fifteen minutes.

It's just a thing. It's not the work. And it's not you. It's urgent - but it isn't important. It'll get replaced at some point, and the urgency will have passed - leaving the things that are important.
